Special Offering Sunday

The United Methodist Church (UMC) has six Special Sunday Offerings congregations are asked to contribute to during the year.

The next offering will be taken on October 6. The featured offerings will be United Methodist Student Day Sunday (UMC), and World Communion Sunday (UMC). Please place your offering in the baskets in the Sanctuary (envelopes are available), mail to the church office at 1120 S. Harrison Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823 or contribute through the Venmo app @UUMCDonation.

UM Student Day Sunday calls upon the denomination to support their students as they prepare for life by adding knowledge to their faith. Every year, the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry awards an average of $5.5 million in financial aid to United Methodist students through over 70 scholarships. The scholarships are available for undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral United Methodist students. Every dollar received– yes 100% -goes towards supporting and educating a new generation of principled Christian leaders for the church and the world. Supporting this Special Sunday is truly an investment in our future.

Your World Communion Sunday gift helps to provide scholarships for national and international graduate students whom God has gifted to learn and to serve. Around the globe, countless gifted and qualified people face financial obstacles that hinder them from preparing for the vocation God has given them, especially youth and young adults. What would it look like if the church today imitated Jesus’ affirmation of the full dignity and God-given potential of all women and men—especially those who’ve historically been assigned to the world’s margins? Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.”  Because of your giving on World Communion Sunday, the most powerful tool to change the world is in more hands.
