UUMC choirs and musicians will perform the cantata, “Simon Bore the Cross” by Margaret Bonds and Langston Hughes. This musical work focuses on Simon of Cyrene, who helped Jesus carry his cross on the way to the crucifixion. In this Cantata, we hear pleas for racial equity through the text but also within the way Margaret Bonds composed the cantata, utilizing moments of gospel and jazz influence.
