The Spiritual Practices Which Shaped Jesus

UUMC 1120 S. Harrison Rd, East Lansing, MI, United States

Jesus was a Jew and raised in the practices of Judaism. Through 5 sessions, beginning April 14, we will explore 11 spiritual practices of Judaism which Jesus would have observed. We will use the book Mudhouse Sabbath by Rev. Lauren Winner, an Episcopal priest who was raised an Orthodox Jew and who still finds great value in the spiritual practices of her youth. She believes Christians can grow closer to and more connected with Jesus through such practices. They also help us understand many of our own Christian spiritual disciplines.

Rev. Rick Blunt will lead this class, on Sundays at 11am-12pm in the Bethune Room. It is helpful, but not required, to purchase a copy of the book from your favorite bookseller. There is a video component by the author each week which will lead into a discussion of the spiritual practices highlighted for that session.

Note: the class will not meet on Sunday, April 24 because Rev. Blunt will be in Charlotte, NC observing the historic UM General Conference. The last class will be May 19.
