What's Next at UUMC

Each Sunday during Lent, the worship message will center on one of five abolitionists who were Methodist and the faith that inspired them. Based on new book, Compelling Lives: Five Methodist Abolitionists and the Ideas That Inspired Them by Rev. Christopher Momany. The book will be available for purchase at UUMC starting February 18th.

Rev. Dr. Chris Momany will guest preach on his book, Compelling Lives: Compelling Lives: Five Methodist Abolitionists and the Ideas That Inspired Them, focusing on Henry Bibb. Church & Society will host a luncheon and talk-back in Asbury Hall at 12 noon. $10 donation per person for lunch is suggested but not required. Cantata Sunday – “Simon Bore the Cross”

UUMC choirs and musicians will perform the cantata, “Simon Bore the Cross” music by Margaret Bonds and lyrics by Langston Hughes. This musical work focuses on Simon of Cyrene, who helped Jesus carry his cross on the way to the crucifixion. In this Cantata, we hear pleas for racial equity through the text but also within the way Margaret Bonds composed the cantata, utilizing moments of gospel and jazz influence.
